The Quilter Pete's Special

Who's Pete? Pete is our Sales Manager and resident gear addict guitar nerd. He went to college for jazz guitar, ran a guitar shop, worked for a few guitar companies, and travels the US for us visiting the best guitar stores out there, our dealers. He has hands on experience with more gear than most people ever get a chance to see. As a result, Pete is very involved with our product development process.

What Pete put together here is his take on the tried and true tone standard: "Blackface" era amps. Those amps are used by musicians of every genre. The Pete's Special delivers those classic tones with all of the benefits you've come to expect today from Quilter amps. Let's take a look at what makes up a Pete's Special.

101 Reverb

To power his special combo, Peter picked the 101 Reverb. The 101 Reverb is our nod to those legendary amps and a few of early boutique builds that were based on them. The bass and treble controls work like you would expect but we improved the mid control. Ours is an active cut/boost mid for added versatility. The control is flat on 5. Turning it below 5 brings out the "Blackface" tone and turning passed 5 brings out a more "Dumble-like" tone.

BlockDock 12 Cabinet:

For grab-and-go ease the 101 Reverb comes pre-loaded into a BlockDock 12 Cabinet. The cabinet is open back like our favorite "Blackface" era amps, but has additional bracing on the back walls for added punch.

Eminence GA-SC64:

The final ingredient. Tones of 1964 still ring true in this vintage voiced speaker by seasoned amp guru George Ale... (Unfortunately we aren't allowed to say... But if you look at the photo you might figure it out.) Well balanced from top to bottom, the GA-SC64’s warm, dynamic character lends itself to vintage amps as well as modern gain and distortion. The traditional build materials offer warmth, dynamics, low note articulation and proper distorted harmonic content layering.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

The Pete's Special came together sort of by fluke. We do a lot of product testings at Quilter Labs and after discussions at Summer NAMM with Nashville guitar beast Beau Hendrich we ordered up a GA-SC64 and see what it could do. This combination exceed our expectations so we put together a very limited batch of these for you. In our testing this combo easily out performed the natural competitor's amp while weighing in at half of the weight.
